Corbert Condensed (a free sans serif font) is an offspring of the basic Corbert typeface designed by Jonathan Hill and published in 2020 under the Northern Block. It is derived from the geometric sans-serif family influenced by the Bauhaus and early modernist movements, which highly emphasize linear, unadorned, and non-delta-shaped design.
Key features:
- Condensed: The exact font measures 72 characters per inch, a 15% reduction in the width of the original Corbert to make it perfect for use in space-sensitive areas.
- Geometric: The shapes are geometric, meaning that they are created along geometrical lines and thus make the outlook of the building minimalistic.
- Sans-serif: In this feature, the font does not have enough serifs, which are the small strokes that are at the ends of letterforms. More than that, it is more modern and tends toward minimalism.
- Bauhaus influence: Strong elements of it are reminiscent of the Bauhaus school, which existed in Germany starting in 1919 and focused on the functionality of objects.
- Early modernist era influence: The font also borrowed some elements from the early modernist period, where conventional styles were eschewed in preference to geometrical shapes and neat lines.
- Nine weights: The font has nine styles, from regular to black, all with corresponding italics.
- Over 540 characters: Included in the font are over 540 characters, which comprise different cases of letters such as a with an alternate shape for the lowercase ‘a,’ ‘e’ and ‘g’ with their alternate shapes, and five styles of numerals.
- OpenType features: It boasts a range of OpenType features, which include ligatures, stylistic alternates, and fractions, among others.
